This policy explains how Kind Tide Counselling collects, stores, uses, and protects your personal information. It also outlines your rights regarding access and corrections to your information.

  • Relevant medical, psychological, or developmental history

  • Referrals or communications with other professionals (with your consent)

Your information is used for the purposes of:

  • Providing counselling and related services

  • Keeping records in line with legal and ethical requirements

  • Coordinating care with other professionals (only with your consent)

  • Managing appointments, invoicing, and communication

4. Storage & Security

  • All records are stored securely in locked filing systems and/or encrypted digital platforms.

  • Records are retained for 7 years from your last session, or until you turn 25 years old if you were under 18 when receiving services.

  • Access to records is restricted to the counsellor and authorised staff.

5. Disclosure of Information

Your information will not be shared without your consent, except in the following circumstances:

  • If there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others

  • If child abuse or neglect must be reported under mandatory reporting laws

  • If records are required by law, subpoena, or court order

Where possible, you will be informed before any disclosure is made.

6. Telehealth Sessions

Confidentiality and privacy standards apply equally to telehealth sessions (via Telehealth, Zoom, phone, or other secure platforms). Clients are encouraged to ensure privacy in their own environment during sessions.

7. Access & Corrections

  • You may request access to your personal information at any time.

  • If you believe your records are inaccurate, you may request a correction.

  • Requests must be made in writing to the contact details provided below.

8. Data Breaches

In the unlikely event of a data breach, Kind Tide Counselling will act in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if applicable.

9. Supervision & Professional Standards

The counsellor engages in regular professional supervision and training as required by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). Supervision discussions are de-identified, ensuring your privacy is always maintained.
